Unite stands for Unity over division

Your Unite team have been absolutely shocked and appalled by the riots, intimidation, attacks and racism taking place on our streets over the past couple of weeks.

We want to say to every Black, Asian and Ethnic minority colleague and anyone impacted who understandably will be shaken and concerned by recent events, not only for themselves but also for their loved ones - we are with you! We are here for you! We are the many! And these thugs do not represent us one bit!

Let’s celebrate what we have in common and respect our differences. Let’s reject hatred in favour of hope. Because we are the many and those that seek to divide us are the few.’

Support during this unsettling time

We are pleased with the swift and proactive response from LBG in placing worker safety front and center following the horrific and hateful attacks that have taken place in our communities. Your Union, Unite are working with the Group to ensure workers are safe and supported and we will continue to meet with leadership during this period and beyond as we ensure physical safety as well as worker psychological safety is also supported and cared for post the civil unrest.

Reminder of safety measures and support available to anyone who needs it:

  • Closure of sites to ensure workers are safe when intelligence indicates there will be civil unrest. These decisions will be issued by leadership teams via local comms channels and SMS. You should not be expected to work this time back if a site/branch is closed and you need to leave early to get home safely

  • Speak to your line manager if you are concerned about your personal safety and that of your family so they can discuss what tailored support can be put in place. This can include you finishing early to ensure you can get home safely and working from home or an alternative site if you can do so

  • Taxi costs and other transport costs will be covered to help you get to and from work if you are concerned with commuting to sites and don’t wish to use public transport

  • Additional support is outlined on interchange and also via your line manager

Your safety comes first and if you feel vulnerable then you will not be mandated to attend work. We are pleased with LBG’s swift response and we stand ready to support all our members and fellow workers during this unsettling and worrying time - we are here for you!

In solidarity
