Unite in LBG - Reflecting on 2024 and looking ahead together

Dear Member,

2024 has been one of the most challenging years for Lloyds Banking Group workers whether that be due to organisational change, job losses, branch closures, site closures, increases in both commuting and travel costs or the banks decision to derecognise grades D-G from collective bargaining. The banks pace agenda and its inevitable impact on workers is showing no sign of letting up.

The new recognition agreement between the unions and LBG has understandably caused a lot of worry, concern and anger amongst our D-G members. We recently held two engagement sessions with our D-G members and discussed how we got here, why LBG have done this, answered member questions and discussed how we can together grow our union in the D-G grades to get collective bargaining back - that is our collective mission now!

We want to thank everyone who attended and engaged in the sessions and to those members who have already reached out and offered to help recruit fellow colleagues and become workplace representatives, we’ll be in touch with you in the new year to discuss next steps. If you were not able to attend one of the sessions then you can find the Recognition Agreement FAQs via the link below and we encourage members to reach out with any questions not covered so we can update the document as we go:-

Despite the challenges, it’s really important to reflect on what we have achieved when we stick together and campaign for better. The 2024-2025 pay deal was met with a lot of understandable cynicism and concern when it was announced in 2023 and it was cautiously voted through by members. The 2025 pay deal is now projected to be an above RPI inflation pay increase, the first time this has been secured for a lot of LBG workers. The significance of this should not be overlooked and it is currently the best pay deal Unite the union has secured within the finance sector for 2025. A clear demonstration of what we in LBG can achieve when we come together, as one, and campaign for a better deal. You can watch our pay 2025 video below which breaks down what the 2025 pay deal means for you:-

This year also saw the launch of our Pension Campaign, one of our members key reward priorities, seeking to address three key concerns and ultimately fight for your security in retirement. The campaign has been well received by LBG workers and the petition numbers are steadily increasing day by day. If you have not yet signed the petition then we encourage you to do so via the link below and watch the recap video which explains the three asks:-

We also led the charge for greater investment in skills in LBG, a continually ask of Unites for many years and a byproduct of our consultative technology agreement survey. The current skills agreement secured is for A-C workers. This win builds on our ongoing challenge to LBG to do more for workers placed at risk of redundancy and live up to its career mobility pronouncements. We have six positions on the new skills councils for A-C members and we would encourage members who are interested in helping us advance our skills agenda to get in touch if you’d like to stand for one of these positions via LBG.Support@unitetheunion.org

We also want to make it clear that this skills agreement is as important and vital for D-G workers as it is for A-C workers and we have been lobbying for this both during RA talks and thereafter and we continue to push the bank to extend the agreement for ALL workers.

As we set our sights on 2025 and beyond, we know that things will no doubt continue to be challenging and we urge all our members to stick with us, to get involved, to help recruit fellow colleagues to our union and help us grow across all grades, across all sites and across all regions.

Help us grow the true independent voice for workers in LBG so we can build on our track record of fighting for jobs, pay and conditions!

In closing we would like to wish all of our members who are celebrating a merry and joyful Christmas and a happy New Year, and we hope you get to enjoy a well-earned break, when it comes.
