The PIP pandemic sweeping across LBG - Unite update

Unite has observed a substantial increase in performance-related issues being raised by individual members. In line with the “Change at Pace” agenda, LBG has previously altered the way it handles grievances related to performance management. These changes discourage or prevent colleagues from raising concerns at informal stages and force them to rely on appeals within the formal process. Unite does not believe that this approach is fair, as it prevents our members from addressing issues in a timely manner when they arise.

Furthermore, appeals following the outcome of formal meetings are typically dealt with by appeal managers appointed from a different reporting line they are from the same business area. We believe that this appeal structure and the constraints on raising grievances may compromise the entitlement for colleagues to be afforded a fair and objective process. In the circumstances outlined, Concerningly, the earliest a colleague may be able to raise a grievance is after they have already been dismissed - if at all. To support our members, we advise that if you have been placed on a Performance Structured Support Plan (PIP or ‘Back to Your Best’ Plan), please get in touch with your local Unite Representative. We are committed to ensuring that any grievances are heard and addressed appropriately.

If you have any concerns regarding how this process is being managed, please contact the Unite Representative team using the details below. Together, we will fight for fair treatment and the right to raise grievances without undue delay.

We know from talking to members that there’s a lot of unease and anxiety within the bank. This is being attributed to LBGs pace agenda and workers being unsure about what will come next, will it be performance concerns (not going quick enough), their job security, their hub location changing or non-existent career prospects. The banks pace agenda is putting business first at the expense of its people. Unite will always put our members first and we will continue to champion member interests and fight and campaign for what is right. But, we need to grow and strengthen the collective voice in the bank. The recent changes to the recognition agreement should be a warning to all workers, if you don’t join the union and help strength our position then the business will continue to put its priorities first - not you. Don’t let that happen! Join today by clicking the link below.
