Storm Éowyn - Unite update

Dear member,

There are a number of red and amber severe weather warnings issued for the U.K. as a result of Storm Éowyn which are expected to be in place until Saturday afternoon.

We urge all members in the impacted areas to stay at home and do not risk going out due to the ‘danger to life’ warning issued by the Met Office, given the high winds, flying debris and dangerous road conditions.

We appreciate that schools, nurseries and various LBG workplaces are closed because of the storm and LBG has committed to ensuring that anyone who cannot get to work or anyone who cannot work from home (including if you no longer have a private workspace due to caring responsibilities/family being home as a result of school/nursery closures etc.) will not be expected to work this time back and in Unites view this should be classed as emergency paid leave. We urge members who encounter any issues with getting this time classed as emergency paid leave after speaking to their line manager to get in touch via LBG.Support@unitetheunion.org

In addition to this any hybrid worker experiencing any issues working from home due to power outages or poor Wi-Fi should contact their line manager to discuss whether they can continue working. Line managers will assess the situation and decide, in agreement with the worker, whether it is suitable to continue working and whether costs are claimable for using additional data etc. Again, if any member has issues with this please get in touch.

Please contact the Unite team if you need any help or assistance via LBG.Support@unitetheunion.org

Stay safe everyone.

In solidarity

Your Unite in LBG team
