International Women's Day - 8th March 2025

International Women's Day - 8 March 2025
International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March every year. It is an opportunity to not only remember the struggles and resistance that women across the world have endured but also to recognise the many achievements that have been won. Our fight for equality continues and in Unite, women every day are demanding equal work, equal voice and equal pay. We challenge inequality and discrimination in workplaces by representation and our collective strength.
Our movement is campaigning and demanding:
Equal pay and pensions justice
Strong maternity and pregnancy protection
Flexible working as a default in all jobs
And end to precarious and insecure work
Recognition and support for women’s health & safety at work
An end to violence and harassment against women
Women have led our resistance. We've achieved so much but still we must keep fighting.
Women need strong trade unions, dedicated to equality. We deserve quality jobs. And we demand a society free of discrimination.
As women, let's fight for this together. Join Unite today. #IWD2025

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March every year. It is a chance to celebrate women’s history, remember women’s struggles and to focus on women’s resistance and achievements across the world. International Women’s Day was first established by Clara Zetkin, a German Marxist in 1911. The struggles for women’s equality is inseparable from the working class struggle.
By joining Unite you can get involved in achieving equality for ALL women.
You can find out more about how Unite is supporting and encouraging women members to become more involved in the union on the Unite Women's webpage.
