Changes to the Recognition Agreement between Unite and LBG
Changes to the Recognition Agreement between Unite and LBG
Today your employer has announced changes to how it will work with trade unions across Lloyds Banking Group (LBG).
From 1st January 2025 LBG will work with Unite so that colleagues in grades A to C continue to be recognised for the purposes of collective negotiation and consultation. Although colleagues from grades D upwards will no longer form part of the formal negotiating structures, they very much remain entitled to be Unite members and the union will continue to work tirelessly to protect, represent and campaign for all colleagues on any workplace issues they have.
NEW skills agreement
Unite has secured a new skills agreement with LBG to support the knowledge and skills development of colleagues in grades A to C.
With a renewed emphasis on continuous learning and skills development, the Unite view is that all colleagues, irrespective of grade, should be covered by the agreement and the union will continue to hold LBG to account to ensure all its workforce is able to compete in a rapidly changing business world.
Lloyds Banking Group has said: “This Skills Agreement is the foundation from which LBG and the Unions jointly address challenges from shifting customer demands, technological advancements and changes in the world of work.” Unite endorses these sentiments, but as indicated, passionately believes that the Skills Agreement should work to the advantage of all colleagues and not be limited to those at grades A to C.
Why colleagues on grades D, E, F and beyond should be Unite members
Trade union membership is your protection at work and Unite would urge colleagues to take up or retain their existing union membership so that collectively we can continue to campaign and champion on jobs, pay and conditions.
Whatever grade you are Unite can support you at work and strongly advocate for your rights at work. All Unite members have access to free advice, support and legal representation when they need it. Don’t forget that being a member of a trade union is your legal right, wherever you work – whatever you do. You can find out about Unite across LBG at: www.uniteinlbg.org
Next steps – your independent strong voice at work
Unite will continue to be a loud and strong voice for the entire workforce across Lloyds Banking Group. As the strongest trade union in the country, with a powerful presence in the financial services industry, Unite will always demand that your workplace is the best it can be.
With highly trained workplace reps Unite will continue to push for improvements across the bank making sure all employees have their views represented at the highest levels.
Even though LBG has not included grades D upwards in the formal union negotiating arrangements, it remains the union’s strong belief that there is now an opportunity to rekindle the importance of collectivism and trade unionism in the workplace and the importance of achieving a fair deal for colleagues.
To achieve these aspirations, we encourage all colleagues including those at grades D upwards to get in touch so they can get more involved and help the union to grow.
